Grade 6 started today their project about Pointillism. After discussion about the art movement itself and its biggest artist we started to work on our projects. I am truly amazed on how the students learned about the color theory and the Pointillism technique. Stay tuned for the final result (I can't wait)

Our 5th and 6th graders have been learning about Amedeo Modigliani and his unique artistic style. You can notice that this unique style is about the face and body features, among other characteristics. Can you guess where is the difference?
If you have a QR scanner around please scan that big beautiful code at the bottom left of Nico's artwork or any of the other two codes. You might get a nice surprise. This year we have made a little twist to the Early Human lesson and it was well worth it. Children are studying Early Humans in their home-classroom so we came up with this wonder! Grade 4 are studying Ancient Greece in their home-classroom. After 3 lessons of hard work we finally made the vases real! Our grades 4 just started to empty the recycling paper bins and to classify the paper in different categories for the recycling process. We all got very surprised with the unnecessary amount of paper that we use on a daily basis. We have so much work to do! Our fantastic 1st graders saw the life and work of one of the greatest, Henri Matisse. We used the book called "When Pigasso met Mootise" one of my favorite books ever. After introducing the artist, seeing some of his work and discussing about shapes, color, balance, etc... Here you can see some of the artwor finished.
I am pretty excited with this unit about Nomadics and Tuaregs. I was lucky enough to live in the Morocco desert for some time and get to know about Tuareg's lifestyle. On the first day, we talked about a whole lot of stuff about Tuaregs. It was exciting because students knew about them, they worked in their home classroom beforehand and some of them even made a presentation about them, so it was extra interesting because we had a pretty cool discussion. We watched two very short videos about Tuareg Music. The first one about traditional music and the second one was about more contemporary music (actually one of my favourite bands) Collaborative art project between students, teachers and admin for the 三十 anniversary of the school!. Theme: draw something that you love in our school!
Some magazines came into school and wanted to get a some pics of wonder Stella with full hands on! We came up with this super cool project, the rest is history!
I was asked to create a group project for a beautiful naked wall in the Middle School lunch room. So I involved G6, G7, teachers, Admin and IT Department. The result is this fantastic mural. It was really interesting to see how the adults were way more excited than the students. Most of them came back just to thanks. I am definetly involving more Adults in future projects.
After discussing the color wheel, cool and warm colors, complementary colors, etc... we came up with these fantastic landscapes!
Grade 4 are studing Ancient Greece in their classroom, so we started our very own Ancient Greece unit. We talked quite a bit about the vases art form and we ended up making these fantasic paper mache vases! Grade 6 and 7 have been studying Nomadics in their home classroom. Maasais is going to be just one of the units that we will do about Nomadics in Art. Here you can see our wonderful Massai's shields! I wish I could have filmed the process but when it comes to paper mache there is never enough free hands to film. Paper mache is always messy but very rewarding! Stay tuned for the decoration of the shields! Can't wait to hang them up! This year, get ready for some paper recycling madness in the art room! We're on a mission to recycle every last scrap of paper we create. Once we've nailed down the technique, worked out all the logistics, and basically become recycling wizards, we're setting our sights on recycling ALL the school's scrap paper. It's about time we make the world a little greener! 🌍♻️ Grade 5s just met Sonia Delaunay. We lively discussed about her life and work. We also discussed how tough was to be a woman and an artist back in those days. Something that we should respect. The lesson turned into a very interesting conversation about the art world. After discussions we got down to work. Here down below you can see the video and download the PPT I used to introduce Sonia to the kids. Talking about patterns with out Grades 3. We also learned about the art of Zentangle. After discussing about patterns and Zentangles we came up with this idea of drawing zentangles animals. Here you can see just few examples but we had almost any animal you can imagine!
Last week I was researching something online and I popped onto this wonders! I saw them and I was like "we had to draw this fun corns". Then we did it and we talk about the colour wheel, primary, secondary, warm, cool colors, ...etc
Grades 4 are studying Ancient Rome these days. Here you can check how a proper acqueduct works out. We talked about life and work of David Hockney with our Grades 5 and 6. We had a very nice and deep discussion about art, art auctions and the art market after knowing that David Hockney sold one art piece for more than 90 million $. It is also really interesting becasue Hockney is one of the few big artist that is using iPad for creating art. Listening to David Hockney himself talking about his life and work. Afterwards we got into a very nice & deep discussion about art, art auctions, art market... we even forgot about playground time!
We learned from our very good friends Flatmate Studio about 36daysoftype and its 36daysoftype challenge. After discussion about the project itself and some basic design tips, some kids got really excited about it. So we posted every letter and number that was delivered by the deadline the official site set. Here you can see everything that we uploaded to our Instagram site, @artichokism.
