Interest fair week is coming up and Jack came up with a Lego project. He turned into a real legoman as a part of his project. We just used few cardboard boxes and few lids recycled and voilà!

Layla's interest fair project was about dragons! I had sooo many questions for her about dragons. So she came up with the idea of using some cardboard boxes for the structure of the head (We have loads of recycled materials in the art room, like loads! sometimes I ask to myself if I am keeping too many of them but when a student comes in and have to do a project and you show them proudly your recycled storage... then everything is much easier. Conclusion: It's never too much!)
So basically after assembling the boxes, we used paper mache technique, then acrylic, foil paper from kids lunch, etc... it was so much fun to work along her making this dragon real. Shiraz wanted to do for the art show a project with foam and colours. After research, she came up with this idea so she was testing it on her playground time. Stay tuned for the final project. This time she printed it on a scrap piece of paper, the final one will be on a canvas! Printmaking unit 2 day 1. After the first printmaking unit where we carved some foam KD board, we made some collography, where we used recycled materials again to create these plates. On the second lesson, we will use Acrylic paint this time instead of ink and watered down. Stay tuned for the final result!
Every year we talk about selfprotrait and every year we give it a new spin. These are grade 4 and after lively discussion about proportions and watercolour technique we ended up making thse wonderful ones.
With Grade 4 we talked about the many different printing techniques there are, using wood, linocut, foam, stone, etc... This is one of the few techniques we are going to use in the classroom. Grades 5 and 6 just studied the wonderful world of Pop Art and everything that surrounds it, not only art. We only talked about two of the greatest pop artists, Andy Warhol of course and Roy Lichtenstein, one of my personal favorites.
Our Grades 3 got to know a bit closer the great Van Gogh. After discussion about his life and work they ended up painting these wonderful chairs. For some reason "Bedroom in Arles" was the favourite work from the genius.
