After the home classroom lesson of Ancient Greece, we got inspired to embark on a creative adventure in the Art room. We discussed Ancient Greek pottery techniques, styles, and historical context. Then, each student let their imagination run wild, designing their own unique pots. Instead of the usual clay, we decided to switch things up and use recycled cardboard and the magical technique of paper mache. Some opted for pure cardboard creativity, while others went for a round shape using balloons and a layer of paper mache. Here you can see a glimpse of the first two lessons.

We always try to link the art lessons with what's going on in the student's home classroom and personally this is one of my favorite lessons. We get to talk about Early Humans and their cave art! Here our very own!
This is one of the few lessons that we repeat over the years, so much to talk about in here, Kimmy Cantrel, Picasso, Africa, recycling...
Grade 4 were studying the wonders of Ancient Greece. Last year we made some mosaic this year working on paper mache Greek vases
It's time for a fresh mural! The previous one has graced our wall for a full 2 years, and frankly, that's far too long. It's time for a change! Our inspiration struck after diving into the world of M.C. Escher and Optical art.
Let me introduce you the latest Koolkynan's production! Lego Piggy Stopmotion! Sit down, press play and enjoy this masterpiece! Here you can see some of the projects we have done during this past wild times! We were working online for at least 6 months! Today was set up day in the school, first day (without students) first week of 2020-2021. I am really looking forward to see the students! In the meantime you can enjoy some of the work from last academic year.
This year we have made a little twist to the Early Human lesson and it was well worth it. Children are studying Early Humans in their home-classroom so we came up with this wonder! Grade 4 are studying Ancient Greece in their home-classroom. After 3 lessons of hard work we finally made the vases real! Our grades 4 just started to empty the recycling paper bins and to classify the paper in different categories for the recycling process. We all got very surprised with the unnecessary amount of paper that we use on a daily basis. We have so much work to do! Collaborative art project between students, teachers and admin for the 三十 anniversary of the school!. Theme: draw something that you love in our school!
Grade 4 are studing Ancient Greece in their classroom, so we started our very own Ancient Greece unit. We talked quite a bit about the vases art form and we ended up making these fantasic paper mache vases! This year, get ready for some paper recycling madness in the art room! We're on a mission to recycle every last scrap of paper we create. Once we've nailed down the technique, worked out all the logistics, and basically become recycling wizards, we're setting our sights on recycling ALL the school's scrap paper. It's about time we make the world a little greener! 🌍♻️ Grades 4 are studying Ancient Rome these days. Here you can check how a proper acqueduct works out. After deep discussion about aboriginal art, its origings and its characteristics, Grades 4 made their very own aboriginal art piece. We played aboriginal music in the background which made the lesson quite special. Printmaking unit 2 day 1. After the first printmaking unit where we carved some foam KD board, we made some collography, where we used recycled materials again to create these plates. On the second lesson, we will use Acrylic paint this time instead of ink and watered down. Stay tuned for the final result!
Every year we talk about selfprotrait and every year we give it a new spin. These are grade 4 and after lively discussion about proportions and watercolour technique we ended up making thse wonderful ones.
With Grade 4 we talked about the many different printing techniques there are, using wood, linocut, foam, stone, etc... This is one of the few techniques we are going to use in the classroom. 4th graders made this outstanding carp. inspired by Japanese art and also the ones that appear in the art of tattoo. Everybody, children, teachers, viewers even myself... were really surprised with the final result, watercolour pencils are quite fun.
Paper mache, one of our favorite techniques! You basically can make anything happen! This time we made a hot air balloon. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any picture of the process because it got quite messy. Basically, we had ready beforehand the paper mache paste and enough newspaper stripes. 2 or 3 layers of wet newspaper stripes on the balloon and few days to let it dry. The coolest part to pop the balloon once the newspaper was dry... Once the balloon is dry and popped we paint it white, so on the second lesson students will have the balloon white, dry and ready to paint their very own design.
Zhonguo Xin Nia is already here!! This new year coming is the year of the Pig. We are working on few projects, some related to pigs, we will upload them soon, and others just related with Chinese decoration for this time of the year. Here is a Zhong Guo Jie, it is s a decorative handcraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song dynasty. The art is also referred to as "Chinese traditional decorative knots". We didn't knitt and we used some recycled cardboar to make these decorations that we will hang next week all over the main lobby of the school!
Our fourth graders were studing about the Greeks in their classroom, so we took this great oportunity to talk more in depth about Greeks and mosaics. It was a really fun project. Most of the children were extremely focused on their work. Jade loved the project that much that she decided to make a bigger one for the annual Art show.
We always try different ways to make art in the art room. We recently started to use iPads and we ended up creating these wonders.
We used some recycled KD board, foam, to make these radial printings. No we are going to work some Linocut, so many options when it comes to printing! We used as a carving tool just a pencil. You can use oil based paint or acrylic. The oil based one works great but it is quite messy and smelly. it is a bit hard to get it off your hands and forget about your clothes. First lesson they design and carve. Second lesson was the proper printing action
