We were delighted to welcome back the talented artists from Qinghai province for another amazing event. This time, they taught an exceptional workshop focused on the art of butter sculptures, which was attended by both parents and teachers. It provided a wonderful opportunity for community members to get to know this unique art form. The artists passionately shared their expertise and knowledge, offering a hands-on experience in crafting these intricate sculptures. It was especially gratifying to hear them talk about the deep cultural significance and the rich traditions behind their art. Their stories and skills brought a piece of Qinghai's vibrant culture to life, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

In one our most recent projects, we delved into the fascinating world of musical instruments, collaborating closely with our music teacher. Together, we explored the history of our G7s favorite instruments. We engaged in thoughtful discussions, gathered recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper, cork, and plaster among others. With these materials, we rolled up our sleeves and set out to craft our favorite instruments. From unique flutes, to violins, to groovy drums, to a real size bass!!! each creation showcased individual style and innovation. The application of plaster added that final touch of finesse to our artistic endeavors.
Working in Middle School with new techniques and materials. After discussion about the art of sculpting and introducing a number of master in the art of sculpting we work on our very own piece.
Last week was international week and each one of us talked about our home countries. I am from Spain and I am so proud of the fine art, artists and rich art history we have. We had lessons about Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, and of course the one and only Antoni Gaudí. They all are very eclectic artists, so with Grade 7&8 we decided to get into deeper discussion with Gaudí and his magical landscapes. In one of those magical places, Parc Güell, you can find the iconic lizard. After discussing life and work of Gaudí, we got hands on work. Here's just a sneak peak. WIP
We just built a color wheel clock! After discussing in depth about the color wheel and the relation between the colors, we came up with this idea! We always try to link the art lessons with what's going on in the student's home classroom and personally this is one of my favorite lessons. We get to talk about Early Humans and their cave art! Here our very own!
This is one of my favorite projects ever! Materials: Wood block, hanger, woman sock and acrylic paint. Finally we got our hands into plaster!! We are pretty excited with all the possibilities that it has to offer! This is just a first test, stay tuned for more coming soon!
This year we have made a little twist to the Early Human lesson and it was well worth it. Children are studying Early Humans in their home-classroom so we came up with this wonder! Some magazines came into school and wanted to get a some pics of wonder Stella with full hands on! We came up with this super cool project, the rest is history!
This year, get ready for some paper recycling madness in the art room! We're on a mission to recycle every last scrap of paper we create. Once we've nailed down the technique, worked out all the logistics, and basically become recycling wizards, we're setting our sights on recycling ALL the school's scrap paper. It's about time we make the world a little greener! 🌍♻️ Grades 4 are studying Ancient Rome these days. Here you can check how a proper acqueduct works out. Interest fair week is coming up and Jack came up with a Lego project. He turned into a real legoman as a part of his project. We just used few cardboard boxes and few lids recycled and voilà!
Layla's interest fair project was about dragons! I had sooo many questions for her about dragons. So she came up with the idea of using some cardboard boxes for the structure of the head (We have loads of recycled materials in the art room, like loads! sometimes I ask to myself if I am keeping too many of them but when a student comes in and have to do a project and you show them proudly your recycled storage... then everything is much easier. Conclusion: It's never too much!)
So basically after assembling the boxes, we used paper mache technique, then acrylic, foil paper from kids lunch, etc... it was so much fun to work along her making this dragon real. Interest fair is coming soon! Lena is working on something quite cool... Can you guess what is about? Stay tuned!
We have Zhong Guo Xin Nian around the corner and this coming new year will be the year of PIG. So we got many different projects going on related to pigs. This is one of them. We made a paper mache flying pig. The main materials used to make the body are used newspaper, plastic bags, toilet paper rolls and masking tape. Once the whole body is built, students cover it with more newspaper stripes impregnated with the paper mache paste.
There was one student that really wanted to make it in a different way, not using paper mache but cardboard boxes. He used many different types of boxes and manipulated them to make this amazing pig, his tail can even move! and it's not even half finish. The following lesson teachers painted all in white just to use the time wisely and don't waste a lesson by tghe students. After pigs are painted in white they will design and paint their very own one. Zhonguo Xin Nia is already here!! This new year coming is the year of the Pig. We are working on few projects, some related to pigs, we will upload them soon, and others just related with Chinese decoration for this time of the year. Here is a Zhong Guo Jie, it is s a decorative handcraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song dynasty. The art is also referred to as "Chinese traditional decorative knots". We didn't knitt and we used some recycled cardboar to make these decorations that we will hang next week all over the main lobby of the school!
Our Grades 5 & 6 have been working on a paper mache project. They first designed what they wanted to make on a KD board structure, assembled and then messiness started! We applied our paper mache secret formula on the structure with newspaper stripes (if anyone is interested in the secret formula, just pop by the art room, we will be very happy to share it with you) Next and last lesson was to paint it all. We got letters, numbers, shapes, logos even some book characters!
Portable homemade lightbox photography studio made by students, for students. Get ready, some high quality pictures coming!
Day 2.
They used any tool they found in the art room to paint their sculptures. Brushes, hands, sponges, stamps, toothbrushes... anything! Some of them decided to create beautiful textures with the paint itself, others just a flat layer, blend the paint, etc... Check all the pictures below and if you have any question about the whole artistic proccess, please leave a comment below in the comment box and I will reply to you as soon as possible. We have been talking about sculpture in class, inclding the different types, materials, techniques, etc... and we came up with this fun one.
Materials: 1 wooden block, 1 hanger, acrylic paint, and 1 sock. First of all, we drilled two little holes in the wooden block to insert the hanger (previously streched) Secondly, the hanger was attached to the wooden block. The students then shaped it and put the sock over the wire frame. Then, they put gloves on and it was time to get dirty! They then painted the whole sculpture with their hands, something that is always fun. After this lesson, we need to wait for the next one for them to design and apply the decorations, colours, etc... so stay tuned! We are just having a recycling competition! Sort of exciting seeing everybody collecting papers, bottles, plastic, bottle tops... as much as they can! So the one that collects the most gets this beauty made of bottle tops and gold sprayed!!!!!
Grades 3 did some beautiful paper folding work. We talked about the art of origami as an introduction. We recycled all the paper we found around school, whole project is 100% recycled. After 2 lessons they came up with this is the wonderful result.
Interest fair week! Henry is sooo into volcanos so we (he) made it happen.
